What is Volunteering?
FAIR was started by volunteers, and continues to rely heavily on volunteers to carry out the mission and goals of our organization. Without these dedicated people, we would not be able to run our adoption centers, nor provide foster homes for rescued companion animals.
Most of FAIR’s Volunteers work directly with the animals – feeding and walking them, cleaning cages, providing transportation and simply giving them the love and care they deserve. Other volunteers handle the paperwork, answer phones and e-mail, make sure the animals get their shots, coordinate special events and complete grant applications, update our Petfinder site, and so on.
Here are job descriptions for some of our most valued volunteer positions:
Adoption Site Assistant |
Account Receivable Manager |
Adoption Counselor |
Account Payable Manager |
Post-Adoption Counselor |
Grant Writer |
Animal Photographer |
Foster Home Inspector |

Governing Board
FAIR is managed by a Governing Board whose members are elected annually. Members of the Governing Board are volunteers who hold positions of responsibility supervising other volunteers or managing programs. The Governing Board formulates policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for volunteers and appropriate care placement of animals.
Our organization is always seeking qualified individuals to join our Board. To be considered for a Board position one must be an active member for at least 4 months, completed an Adoption Counselor Training, or Foster Caregiver Training, worked at a FAIR adoption site a minimum of sixteen hours; or successfully and consistently fostered FAIR animals for the past 4 months and has been recommended for a Board position by an existing Governing Board member.
